Anurag Basu’s latest film 'Metro… In Dino' is managing to stay afloat at the box office, thanks in part to the mid-week surge brought on by ‘Discount Tuesday’. The romantic drama, which boasts a star-studded cast including Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Ali Fazal, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkona Sen Sharma, Neena Gupta and Anupam Kher, recorded a 10% bump in collections on its fifth day in theatres.

'Metro... In Dino' Box Office Collection Day 5

According to early estimates from Sacnilk, the film earned ₹2.9 crore on Tuesday, up from Monday’s ₹2.5 crore haul. This slight mid-week jump is attributed to the ‘Discount Tuesday’ initiative, where standard cinema tickets are sold at reduced rates between ₹99 and ₹149. However, it still lags behind its peak single-day collection of ₹7.25 crore on Sunday. The film opened at ₹3.5 crore on Friday, followed by ₹6 crore on Saturday.

So far, 'Metro… In Dino' has raked in ₹22.15 crore at the Indian box office. That’s enough for it to surpass the lifetime collections of 'Fateh' (₹18 crore), directed by Sonu Sood, and Kangana Ranaut’s political period drama 'Emergency' (₹20 crore).

The film is now steadily inching towards the ₹25 crore milestone, marking a positive turn in its theatrical run.

Among Hindi-speaking audiences, Basu’s film continues to hold the top spot, outperforming other domestic releases. Aamir Khan’s 'Sitaare Zameen Par' managed ₹1.85 crore on Tuesday, while Kajol-starrer 'Maa', a horror-drama, earned just ₹85 lakh.

Upcoming Releases

The real test for 'Metro… In Dino' begins this Friday as it enters its second weekend, facing stiff competition from high-profile new releases like 'Superman', 'Maalik', and Vikrant Massey’s much-anticipated 'Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan'. Trade experts say if the film matches its first Thursday numbers this coming Friday, it could comfortably reach a lifetime total of ₹45 crore in India. However, if the second Friday sees a sharp dip, the film may fall short and finish its run in the ₹40 crore range, similar to 'Maa'.

Directed and written by Anurag Basu, the film is produced by T-Series Films and Anurag Basu Productions. It is a spiritual successor to the 2007 cult hit 'Life In A Metro'.
