Arrest of A Jagan Mohan Rao

The President of the Hyderabad Cricket Association, A Jagan Mohan Rao, has been taken into custody by the Telangana Crime Investigation Department due to several allegations related to ticket sales.

The situation escalated when the local franchise, Sunrisers Hyderabad, filed a complaint with Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, highlighting Rao's questionable actions concerning ticket distribution. They accused him of locking the F# corporate box just hours before their match against the Lucknow Super Giants on March 27, which was reserved for LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka.

Additionally, Rao is accused of coercing individuals into providing him with complimentary tickets, reportedly demanding around 20 extra tickets through intimidation.

In response, SRH threatened to relocate their home ground outside the state, prompting CM Reddy to initiate an investigation, which was led by Director General Kothakota Sreenivasa Reddy. Following this inquiry, the Telangana CID gathered evidence of Rao's coercive tactics, leading to his arrest on Wednesday, July 9.

SRH's Performance in IPL 2025

Entering IPL 2025, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) had high expectations after finishing as runners-up in 2024. Under the guidance of coach Daniel Vettori and captain Pat Cummins, they aimed for a successful season. However, their journey in IPL 2025 was marked by both brilliance and inconsistency.

They kicked off the season with an explosive performance, scoring 286/6—recording the second-highest total in IPL history—thanks to Ishan Kishan's unbeaten 106 and solid contributions from Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen. Despite this impressive start, the team faced challenges mid-season, managing only two wins in their first seven matches.

Ultimately, SRH concluded the league in 6th place, achieving six victories, suffering seven defeats, and experiencing one washout, which left them with 13 points and a negative net run rate. Their campaign came to an end after a rain-affected match against Delhi Capitals, but they finished on a high note with a remarkable 278/3 victory over Kolkata Knight Riders, securing three of the top four IPL totals in history.
