Mumbai: In a horrific accident in Sewri, a 35-year-old trailer driver, Vanshraj Ramgarib Kori, a resident of Dinbandhu Nagar, Wadala, lost his life after the trailer he was driving crashed into a road divider at high speed. The accident occurred around midnight on July 5 beneath the Eastern Freeway, on BPT Road.
According to the FIR filed by Sewri Police, a Tata trailer (MH 01 EM 4828), carrying four counterweight clamps — each weighing approximately 10 tonnes — collided with the divider while heading towards Cotton Green. Assistant Police Sub-Inspector Mahesh Mohite, 52, and his patrolling team received information about the incident at around 12 a.m.
The impact of the crash was so severe that the iron chains securing the counterweights snapped, causing one of the massive weights to slam into the rear of the trailer cabin. As a result, driver Kori was fatally crushed between the steering wheel and his seat.
Emergency responders from the Sewri Fire Brigade and Byculla Rescue Team managed to extract Kori from the wreckage and rushed him to KEM Hospital, where he was declared dead before admission, an official said.
