The Sri Lanka Cricket Board has requested the Indian Cricket Board to play a short white ball series. The Indian team was to tour Bangladesh in August next month, but it was cancelled due to political tension. After which, the Sri Lankan Cricket Board proposed to the BCCI to tour their country.
Virat-Rohit will go to Sri Lanka.
The BCCI has not yet responded to this offer. If this series happens, fans can see Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in action. Both veterans have retired from the T20 and Test formats and play only the ODI format. Sri Lanka has sent a schedule of three ODIs and three T20 matches to the BCCI. The Indian team was going to play the same number of matches in Bangladesh.
The BCCI has not agreed yet.
According to the report of Cricbuzz, the possibility of the Sri Lanka tour will largely depend on the decision to be taken on the Asia Cup. BCCI secretary Devjit Saikia will be present during the Lord's Test in London this week and is likely to hold talks with the players, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar. The BCCI will respond to Sri Lanka Cricket's request only after these discussions.
Decision on the Asia Cup in 2-3 days
A decision on the Asia Cup is likely to come in the next two-three days. This will be the first time after the recent military tension between the two countries that India and Pakistan will face each other on the cricket field. As hosts of the tournament, the final decision will have to be taken by the BCCI, which will be based on the advice of the Indian government. The Asia Cup can be held between September 17 and 27, provided it gets formal approval from the Indian government, which has not been received yet.
