Prince Harry and Meghan Markle quit royal life five years ago, sending shockwaves both throughout the Royal Family and across the world. While they may have left royal life and the UK behind in 2020, choosing to instead set up home in America, this move did not stop them from making some controversial revelations about their time as members of the Royal Family.
This began when the couple, who still go by the royal titles the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, sat down with Oprah Winfrey in 2021. In this interview, the Duke, 40, and Duchess, 43, slammed royal life, with Meghan even making a comment which suggested there were "concerns" from an unnamed member of the family about their son Prince Archie's skin colour before he was born.
This led to Prince William saying on a royal engagement soon after that the Royal Family were not "racist", while the late Queen said that the issues raised were "concerning" and that recollections may "vary".
While the royals continued on with their duties afterward, the Oprah Winfrey interview and the claims made reportedly upset the late Queen, and were seen as "unforgiveable".
This was revealed by a former courtier, who reportedly told The Daily Beast: "When he (Prince Harry) and Meghan attacked the institution that she spent her whole life serving in the Oprah interview, that betrayal was complete.
''To accuse an unidentified person within the family of racism, thereby casting the shadow of suspicion over everyone, was unforgivable in her (the late Queen's) eyes.
"Things were never the same after that. It was a horrific series of betrayals at the end of her life."

While the late Queen may have been upset by her grandson and Meghan Markle's interview, she did stay in contact with them in the months afterwards, and even met up with them during their 2022 visit to the UK, along with their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
However, the Oprah interview is not believed to have been the first time the couple had upset the late Queen, with recent revelations in biographer Sally Bedell Smith's Substack, Royal Extras, revealing that she had also been upset with the couple in the run up to their 2018 wedding.
Bedell Smith was reportedly told this by the late Queen's cousin and close confidiante the late Lady Elizabeth Anson.
