In the rainy season, someone in every house suffers from diseases like fever, cough, or a viral. The biggest cause of these diseases is mosquitoes. Especially diseases like dengue, malaria, and chikungunya spread rapidly this season. But now to deal with this problem, the Andhra Pradesh government has taken the help of AI, i.e., Artificial Intelligence.
The state government has launched a Smart Mosquito Surveillance System (Smart Mosquito Surveillance System – SMoSS). It will help in preventing diseases before they spread by tracking the activity of mosquitoes.
What is SMoSS?
SMoSS is a high-tech system that includes AI-powered sensors, drones, and IoT devices. This system collects many important information related to mosquitoes, such as which species of mosquitoes are present. Whether the mosquito is male or female, how many mosquitoes are present in an area? What is the humidity and temperature there?
As soon as the system sees a normal number of mosquitoes at a location, it immediately sends an alert. After this, the municipal corporation team goes there and eliminates mosquitoes by fogging or spraying.
How will AI technology help?
AI sensors and drones will give information about the number and activity of mosquitoes. IoT sensors will give data on the weather and the status of mosquitoes in real time. This data is tracked live on a dashboard, so that officers can make immediate decisions.
With this technology, unnecessary chemical spraying will not happen, which will not have a bad effect on the environment and health.
Drones will spray medicine.
Now there will be no need for heavy vehicles or human effort for spraying. The government will spray larvicide with the help of drones, which will save time, cover more area with fewer chemicals and there will be less need for human sources.
In which cities has this system started?
The smart system was started as a pilot project in 66 areas of 6 municipal corporations. Which includes Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Kakinada, Rajamahendravaram, Nellore and Nellore. If this pilot is successful, it can be rolled out in the rest of Andhra Pradesh and perhaps in other states as well.
