This Jyotirlinga of Lord Shiva is located in Barel village of Daulatabad, Maharashtra, this temple is also known by the name of Ghushmeshwar Mahadev. This name has become famous in the name of a devotee. This temple is located at a short distance of the caves of Ajanta Alora in Maharashtra.

Mythology related to this temple

A mythological story is prevalent about this temple. It is said that a Brahmin named Sudharma lived on the Devagiri mountain with his wife Sudeha. He had no children. Astrology revealed that Sudeha could not be pregnant, so Sudeha got her husband married her younger sister Ghushma. Ghushma was an exclusive devotee of Shiva. She used to worship 101 Parthiv Shivling of Shiva every day. After a few days, Ghushma got a beautiful child. A few days later, Sudeha started jealous of Ghushma and one day he threw his child into the pond. In this pond, Ghushma used to immerse the earthly Shivalingas every day. When the news of the child's death occurred in the morning, everyone became heartbroken but Ghushma continued to do devotion to Lord Shiva as if nothing has happened and reached the pond to immerse Shivling as usual. As soon as he immersed the Shivling, Mahadev appeared and revived his son. Mahadev became angry at Sudeha and lifted the trident, but then Ghushma said to forgive his sister. Mahadev was very pleased with this and he said that Ghushma should ask for a bride. Devotee Ghushma said that Mahadev should reside this for the welfare of the world. Since then, this Jyotirlinga became famous as Ghushmeshwar Mahadev in the name of Ghushma. It is believed that those who worship here still get children.

That lake still exists in this temple

It is believed that the lake is still alive where Ghushma immersed all the Shivalingas. With its philosophy, the couples get the happiness of the children and their wishes are fulfilled.
