As Bengaluru’s infamous traffic snarls show no sign of easing, one entrepreneur is demonstrating how to make the most of the hours lost in gridlock. Amrut Joshi, a Karnataka-based founder and entrepreneur, recently took to LinkedIn to share a unique approach to turning frustrating commutes into meaningful personal and professional time.
Joshi’s daily journey between Hebbal and Whitefield spans nearly 80 minutes each way, an exhausting stretch for most. But instead of resigning himself to idle time, Joshi crafted what he calls a personal "traffic cheat sheet," a routine of simple yet effective strategies aimed at making long commutes more fulfilling.
“Navigating Bengaluru’s traffic has become progressively nerve-wracking and challenging,” Joshi wrote in his now viral post. “But over time, I’ve developed some ways to turn this time-drain into a time-gain.”
Books, Blogs, And Biographies
A key element of Joshi’s strategy is reading. Leveraging traffic jams to catch up on his ever-growing reading list, he said the backseat of a cab has become his mobile library. “Finally catching up on my reading list, one traffic jam at a time,” he wrote. He steers clear of legal texts and instead opts for lighter reads like TechCrunch, Cricinfo, and political biographies. Check the post Here

Calls, Masks, And Power Naps
Joshi also uses the time to stay connected, fitting in short calls with clients, friends, and colleagues. “Even a short chat can help keep connections going,” he shared. Recognising the health risks from pollution, he wears a mask during longer rides. And on particularly draining days, he doesn’t shy away from taking a short nap to recharge.
Ending his post with a nod to Bengaluru’s broader commuting community, Joshi called on others to share their own routines for navigating the city’s congestion. “Traffic doesn’t have to be wasted time,” he concluded, inviting fellow “#traffichackers” to join the conversation.
