New Delhi: England pocketed a 2-run lead after a rare first innings tie against India on the third day of third Test match at the Lord’s. After the hosts bowled out the visitors for an identical score of 387 in the first innings, England played for just one over before stumps and scored just 2 runs on what became a fascinating day of cricket at the Lord’s.
When the day was called off, England were 2/0 with Zak Crawley (2 off 6 balls) and Ben Duckett (0 off o balls) on the crease for the English side. Jasprit Bumrah bowled the only over in the second innings in the final six minutes of play which saw some heated altercations between Indian skipper Shubman Gill and the English batters.
KL Rahul shines for India
Earlier in India’s first innings, seasoned batter KL Rahul top-scored for the visitors with 100 off 177 balls, becoming only the second India batter to score more than one hundred at Lord’s after Dilip Vengsarkar. Apart from him, left-handers Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja chipped in with useful scores of 74 and 72 respectively to help India level the scores with England.
Pant, who looked well on course for a century, lost his wicket unfortunately as he was run out at the stroke of Lunch. He shared a sensational 141-run stand for the fourth wicket with Rahul which proved to be a pivotal partnership for India helping them level the scores.
In the first session of the day, India resumed the overnight score of 145 for 3 and after the heroics form Rahul and Pant, Jadeja and Nitish Kumar Reddy (30) joined forces to add valuable 72 runs for the sixth wicket. However, just when it looked like India were on course to take a lead in the innings, England bounced back towards the end claiming the last four wickets in no time to push India against the wall.
For England, Chris Woakes shined with three wickets while Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes claimed two wickets apiece. Brydon Carse and Shoaib Bashir also contributed with a wicket each.
