The rainy season has begun. In this season, there is a need to take utmost care of health. The rainy month is also known as Ashad month. In this season, the problem of Vata-dosha in the body often increases, while skin infection also occurs the most in the rain. To avoid all these seasonal diseases, Ayurveda says to do Abhyanga (massage) with bitter oil like mustard, neem or sesame. It is said that it not only massages the body but also purifies the body internally. Let us know why oil massage is necessary in the month of Ashadh…
Know what Ayurveda says
Let us tell you, applying oil in the month of Ashadha is mandatory. The sutra of Charak Samhita (Sutrasthan 5.6) says that Varshasu Vata Prakopat Snigdhaabhyangah Prashasyate. That is, Vata increases in the rainy season, so massage with Snigdha oil is good. It is said that Vata-Kapha doshas increase in the rain. At the same time, rain also has a bad effect on the skin. The pores of the skin get closed, due to which sweat and dirt get accumulated inside. Apart from this, blood circulation slows down and mental restlessness increases.
Know why only bitter oil is used in the month of Ashadh
Here, applying bitter oil of mustard, neem and Karanja has importance in the month of Ashadha. These three types of oils have several properties. Mustard oil is sharp, hot, anti-vata and provides relief in joint pain and coolness of the skin. On the other hand, neem oil is bitter, cold, anthelmintic, fungal, ringworm, itching and germicidal. Apart from this, Karanja oil is bitter, astringent, anti-bile and is beneficial in boils and skin diseases. This kind of bitter oil is beneficial in Vata-Kapha.
Know how to do oil massage
Let us tell you, as much as it is necessary to massage with oil in the month of Ashadh, it is equally beneficial if done in the right way. It is necessary to massage with oil in the month of Ashadh on Saturday, Wednesday and Amavasya/Purnima. Before sunrise or before dusk, warm the oil and apply it especially on the head, palms, feet, spine and around the navel. After 30–45 minutes, take a bath with Ubtan or gram flour. This method gives you relief from Vata-Kapha. Applying bitter oil in Ashadh is not just a home remedy, it is a confluence of the nature of the body, the movement of the season and the purification of spiritual energy.
Why do we offer oil to Shanidev
Here bitter oil is offered to Saturn According to it, in the Skanda Purana (Kashi section) it is stated that Shanischarpriyam tailam tena dehe samacharet. Understanding this meaning, Shani is very fond of sesame or mustard oil. Shani’s position in the month of Ashadh is often considered effective, especially on Saturdays, when offered to Shani with oil, evils, diseases and obstacles are calmed. The tradition of offering oil to Saturn is old.
