Minnesota Vikings linebacker Dallas Turner, entering his second NFL season, reportedly fell victim to a phone scam that cost him a staggering $240,000. The 22-year-old was allegedly targeted by a caller posing as a representative from JP Morgan Chase, who claimed that someone was attempting to impersonate him at a bank branch in Arizona.

As per reports, the scam took place on February 19. The caller convinced Turner that to protect his funds, he needed to urgently transfer his money to alternate business accounts. Believing his finances were at risk, Turner visited two separate Chase Bank branches and transferred $120,000 to each — funds that were later discovered to have been funneled into fraudulent accounts.

Turner didn’t realize he had been duped until after speaking with a family member, who raised concerns about the legitimacy of the instructions. He then contacted law enforcement in an effort to recover the stolen funds.

The Minnesota Star Tribune claimed that police have since identified suspects and are preparing to file charges. However, authorities have managed to recover less than $2,500 so far — a fraction of the total amount lost.

Turner, a standout linebacker drafted in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, is in the second year of a four-year, $15.77 million contract. Neither Turner, his legal team, nor the Vikings organization has issued a public statement regarding the incident.

Teammate Jonathan Greenard, however, weighed in with a cryptic social media post on July 9: “this is not how it went down but who told u this ????”

Turner had a promising rookie season, recording 20 tackles, three sacks, and an interception. As training camp approaches, he’ll be looking to put this off-field issue behind him and focus on his development in the 2025 season.
