Indian Railways has taken a big decision to install CCTV cameras in trains to further strengthen the safety of passengers. Under this scheme, CCTV cameras will be installed in about 74,000 passenger coaches and 15,000 locomotive engines across the country. 4 dome-type cameras will be installed in each coach. At two entrances, each engine will have 6 cameras-forward, back and both sides. At the same time, one dome camera and two desk-mounted microphones will be installed in the cabin (front and rear).

The special feature of these high-tech cameras is that they can record high quality even in low light and provide clean footage even during high speed. This is expected to improve the monitoring system and security significantly. In this regard, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav and Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu held a review meeting of the project on July 12 with senior officials of the Railway Board.

Data privacy will also be safe

Railways have clarified that the cameras will be installed only in normal traffic parts, such as near the doors of the coach. Its purpose is to increase security by maintaining the privacy of the passengers. The Railway Minister instructed the officials to capture a clear video in trains running at 100 km/h or more speed and give better performance in low light.

Railway officials said STQC certified modern cameras will be installed. Also, the possibilities of AI based analysis on CCTV data will also be searched in collaboration with Indiaai Mission, so that suspicious activities can be rapidly identified. This step of the railway will not only give a new level to the safety of the passengers, but will also help in curbing the universal criminal gangs and thugs.
