Pune: One of Pune’s most well-known eateries, Cafe Goodluck, has had its licence temporarily suspended by the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) following a viral video that allegedly showed glass shards in a food item served at the restaurant.
The incident came to light after a couple claimed to have found glass pieces in a “bun muska” they had ordered from the cafe. They recorded a video of the item and posted it on social media, prompting swift public concern and regulatory action.
"An inspection was conducted, during which some unhygienic conditions were found. We have suspended the eatery's licence until further notice and necessary compliance," said FDA Joint Commissioner Suresh Annapure on Sunday.
He added that the FDA had taken cognisance of the reports circulating online and proceeded to carry out a formal inspection of the establishment. “The FDA inspected the food joint after taking cognisance of reports about glass pieces allegedly found in a food item,” Annapure confirmed.

Cafe Goodluck, located on Fergusson College Road, is a landmark in Pune and has long been a popular haunt for college students, tourists and locals alike. The suspension has sparked a range of reactions on social media, from concern over food safety to disappointment from loyal patrons.
The FDA has not specified a timeline for reinstating the license, but officials stated that the restaurant would have to meet hygiene norms and complete compliance checks before it is allowed to resume operations.
