Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast on Tuesday initiated prebookings for its muchanticipated electric SUVs, the VF 6 and VF 7, in the Indian market. The bookings can be done through the company’s official website, VinFastAuto.in, as well as at its physical showrooms. A fully refundable deposit of Rs 21,000 is required to reserve a vehicle.
These two models are set to go on sale in August, following the launch of VinFast’s upcoming manufacturing facility in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. Customer deliveries are expected to commence soon after. The plant, which forms part of the company’s $500 million investment in India, will play a critical role in VinFast’s local operations. Once fully operational, it is projected to produce up to 150,000 vehicles per year and create around 3,500 direct jobs.
VinFast CEO for Asia, Pham Sanh Chau, stated that the launch reflects the company’s ambition to bring globally competitive EVs tailored to India’s needs. He expressed confidence that Indian buyers will find the VF 6 and VF 7 appealing in terms of both design and technology.
The VF 7 is positioned as a premium midsize SUV. It comes equipped with a suite of modern features including Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), a panoramic sunroof, a wireless charging pad, connected car capabilities, and a large touchscreen infotainment system. Signature LED lighting adds to its distinctive appearance. The VF 7 is expected to carry a price tag of approximately Rs 35 lakh (exshowroom).
Targeted at families, the VF 6 also offers Level 2 ADAS, along with a connected infotainment interface, a panoramic roof, and premium design elements. It is likely to be priced around Rs 25 lakh (exshowroom).
In preparation for the launch, VinFast has signed agreements with 13 partners to establish 32 dealerships across 27 cities. These dealerships will support the brand’s 3S model, sales, service, and spares, and will be located in both metro hubs and emerging EV markets.
To build a robust EV ecosystem, VinFast has partnered with RoadGrid, myTVS, and Global Assure to provide nationwide charging infrastructure, AIpowered diagnostics, and integrated aftersales services. Additionally, a collaboration with cleantech company BatX Energies will focus on battery recycling and rare metal recovery, supporting VinFast’s sustainability vision in India.
