Aprilia has finally launched the SR 175 in India at a price of Rs 1.26 lakh (exshowroom). It replaces the SR 160 from the Italian bikemaker’s lineup. With more power on tap, the Aprilia SR 175 is now a closer rival to the likes of Yamaha Aerox 155 and Hero Xoom 160. The scooter is locally assembled at Aprilia’s Baramati plant in Maharashtra.
Aprilia SR 175: What’s new?
Units of the new SR 175 have reportedly started reaching Aprilia dealerships across the country since the past couple of weeks. The design of the SR 175 is identical to its outgoing predecessor but comes with two colour options namely Matt Primatic Black and Glossy Tech White. Visual highlights include twin LED headlamps, a singlepiece seat, a flat footboard, with a grab handle, and an upswept exhaust.
The biggest update is the addition of a 5.5inch coloured TFT instrument panel borrowed from Aprilia RS 457. That said, the layout of the console is different with options to pick, and is Bluetoothenabled. This digital instrument cluster packs Bluetooth connectivity that enables smartphone pairing via the Aprilia app for call alerts, notifications and music control. The other notable features are a USB charging port and a full LED illumination.
Powering the Aprilia SR 175 is a bigger 174.7cc, singlecylinder motor that kicks out 13.08 bhp at 7,200rpm and a peak torque of 14.14 Nm at 6,000rpm. The engine is paired with a CVT automatic. In comparison, the older 160.03cc motor delivered 11.11 bhp and 13.44 Nm of torque.
In terms of hardware, components like the frame, suspension, brakes and tyres have carried over from the SR 160. Hence, the SR 175 rolls on the same 14inch wheels at both ends wrapped in 120section tyres. Braking duties are handled by a front disc with singlechannel ABS, paired with a rear drum brake. Suspension setup comprises telescopic front forks and a rear monoshock.
