The excitement surrounding Test cricket is currently at its peak. As India and England battle it out in an intense 5-match Test series, fans are witnessing plenty of drama and thrilling moments on the field.

Amid this backdrop, let’s take a look at the top five players who have won the 'Player of the Match' award the most times in Test history.

Surprisingly, India's batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar, who played 200 Test matches and holds the record for most runs in the format, does not feature in the top 5.

Players With Most 'Player of Match' Awards

Former Sri Lankan captain and stylish left-handed batter Kumar Sangakkara ranks fifth. Sangakkara earned 16 'Player of the Match' awards in his 134-Test appearances. His consistency and class made him a pillar of Sri Lanka's batting line-up.

At number four is Australia's spin legend Shane Warne. In his 145-match Test career, Warne also claimed 17 'Player of the Match' titles. His flair and mastery with the ball earned him global recognition.

Pakistan’s iconic fast bowler Wasim Akram takes the third spot, having bagged the award 17 times in his 104-Test career. Known for his deadly swing bowling, Akram consistently delivered match-winning performances.

Sri Lankan spin wizard and the highest wicket-taker in Test history, Muttiah Muralitharan, stands second on the list. He claimed the 'Player of the Match' award 19 times across 133 Tests.

Legendary South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis holds the record for receiving the most 'Player of the Match' awards in Test cricket. During his illustrious career spanning 166 matches, Kallis earned this honour on 23 occasions.

Interestingly, Sachin Tendulkar, despite a stellar career in which he played 200 Tests, appears at the ninth spot on this list with 14 'Player of the Match' titles.
