Mohit Suri’s latest directorial, Saiyaara, is generating strong buzz ahead of its theatrical release, thanks to impressive advance bookings and growing word-of-mouth. Featuring debutants Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, the romantic musical is backed by Yash Raj Films and marks Suri’s first collaboration with Aditya Chopra’s production house—known for redefining romance in Indian cinema.

If early trends hold, Saiyaara could become a rare post-pandemic release led by newcomers to open in double digits.

'Saiyaara' Advance Booking Hints at Strong Opening

As per trade tracker Sacnilk, Saiyaara has already raked in Rs 4.41 crore in advance bookings for Friday alone, which includes Rs 1.8 crore from block bookings. Over 50,000 tickets have already been sold, and industry insiders estimate that final advance ticket sales may cross 1.5 lakh.

“Going by the advance booking, Yash Raj Films’ new release has a tremendous word-of-mouth which may result in it becoming a rare movie with newcomers to open in double digits.”

Rare Feat for a Film With Newcomers

This strong initial buzz is significant, considering lead actor Ahan Panday is a complete newcomer. Ahaan, who is the brother of influencer Alanna Panday and cousin of actress Ananya Panday, is making his acting debut with Saiyaara.

His co-star, Aneet Padda, though also relatively new, gained attention for her role in the young adult series Big Girls Don’t Cry, which premiered on Prime Video India in 2023.

Outpacing Suri’s Recent Box Office Performances

If Saiyaara manages to cross the Rs 10 crore mark on its opening day, it will outperform several of Suri’s previous films featuring star casts.
His last release, Ek Villain Returns (2022), starring John Abraham and Arjun Kapoor, opened at Rs 7.05 crore, while his 2020 thriller Malang opened at Rs 6.71 crore, despite boasting names like Aditya Roy Kapur and Disha Patani.

Suri’s last film to open in double digits was Half Girlfriend in 2017, which brought in Rs 10.3 crore on day one.

Even Ahead of Hamari Adhuri Kahani and Aashiqui 2

Based on advance booking, Saiyaara is already close to surpassing the Rs 4.95 crore day-one collections of Suri’s 2015 film Hamari Adhuri Kahani, starring Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan.

Even Aashiqui 2—a musical romance in the same genre—had opened at Rs 6.1 crore in 2013. However, that film had the advantage of being a sequel to the iconic 1990 hit Aashiqui, and its leads Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur weren’t complete newcomers.

Facing Competition at the Box Office

Releasing this Friday, Saiyaara will go head-to-head with several new and existing titles, including Tanvi The Great, a coming-of-age drama starring Anupam Kher, and Nikita Roy, a psychological thriller headlined by Sonakshi Sinha and directed by Kussh Sinha.

It will also face competition from Hollywood holdovers such as F1, Jurassic World Rebirth, and Superman, directed by James Gunn.
