Joe Root had a disappointing start to the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy but in the 3rd Test at Lords he bounced back with an impressive century his 37th in Test cricket. Root’s hundred helped England post a total of 378 runs in the first innings. England were dismissed for 192 in their second innings and if they had given away a lead the 22-run victory might have slipped out of their hands. Root is one of the most consistent batters. Following his hundred he will now be looking to score more runs in the remainder of the series. If Root plays his natural game Englands win percentage will automatically increase as he is one of the most reliable batsmen in the England lineup. Meanwhile Root is getting close to achieving a historic feat in the WTC. He will become the first player in the world to reach 6000 runs in the World Test Championship. Root is currently the leading run scorer in WTC with 5796 runs and also has the most no. of centuries in the league-19. The fact that Steve Smith the next best has scored 4278 runs more than 1500 runs less than Root shows how dominant Root is in the World Test Championship (WTC). Despite Joe Roots brilliance England have failed to reach the WTC final in the first three editions. Currently leading 2-1 against India a win in the final two Tests would give them a strong start to the new WTC cycle. While the upcoming Ashes series in Australia will be a tough challenge with few expecting an England win they have a promising path ahead. England has a good chance to push for WTC final qualification with home series against Pakistan and New Zealand away trips to Bangladesh and a weakened South Africa. With the remaining matches scheduled to be played in Old Trafford Cricket Ground and The Oval India is currently behind 1-2 in the five-match series.
