In today’s time, wearing a clock is not only a way to see the time, but also become style and status. Clocks worth worth crores are found in the market. But do you know when and who made the first clock in the world?
World’s first clock
The world’s first clock is known as “Watch 1505” or “Pomander Watch”. It was created by the German Peter Henlein. He prepared this watch in the year 1505, that is, about 520 years ago. Peter Henlen is also considered the world’s first watch maker.
Apple -shaped unique clock
The size of this watch was round like an apple. It was called a pomander clock because it looked like a pomander (a kind of fragrance, a bulonuma box). This watch was very small and worth keeping in pocket, which people used to wear around the neck.
Prized heritage received from junk
In 1987, a young man from London’s Kabadi Bazaar bought this watch in just 10 pounds (about ₹ 947). Initially no one knew that this is the first watch in the world. The young man kept him with him for many years and later sold him. The clock passed through several hands, but in 2002 when it reached a researcher, the real identity came to light. “1505” year was mentioned on the clock and Peter Henlen’s signature was also present on himself. This confirmed that this is the first watch in the world.
Today’s price in crores
This precious clock was made of copper and gold. According to ‘Antique Week Magazine’ in 2014, it was priced between $ 50 to 80 million, or about ₹ 381 to ₹ 611 crore.
