Nikita Roy marks a gripping and stellar directorial debut for Kussh Sinha who crafts a supernatural thriller that is emotionally deep suspenseful and offers a poignant commentary on faith fear and spiritual manipulation. The film begins with Arjun Rampal who is sitting at home and working but he suddenly encounters a gripping dread which he cannot explain but feel and slowly it takes hold of him. Enters Sonakshi Sinha who plays the role of Nikita Roy she is an author and debunks the fake spiritual leaders she is commanding and rational yet grounded and mature. This could be the career best performance from Sonakshi. She delivers a stellar performance with remarkable restraint portraying a woman of conviction who is unfortunately forced to confront forces she cannot easily explain and solve the mystery of her brother’s death. Her performance is not over the top it’s deeply human. Nikita Roy teams with her ex-partner played by Suhail Nayyar he adds balance to the narrative with a calm and composed performance. Their chemistry adds texture to the narrative but doesn’t overshadow the main plot. Paresh Rawal as Amardev brings his signature calm and gravitas to the screen. He is a revered spiritual leader hiding deeply sinister motives. His presence adds a layer of emotional intelligence to the story offering both contrast and complement to Nikita’s journey. Kussh Sinha handles the film with deliberation and confidence which is refreshingly subtle and brilliant. Rather than opting for flashy or formulaic visuals and horror beats he builds the pacing to guide the audience through an evolving psychological landscape of fear and manipulation. The filmmaker invests in character and tone rather than flashy tropes. This is a director who understands that restraint can often be more unsettling than excess. The screenplay is written by Pavan Kripalani which his tight and poignant. Dialogue is purposeful silence is used meaningfully and narrative reveals are carefully spaced. Technically the film excels in creating mood. cinematography lends the film a textured visual palette. The production design is effective giving the settings a natural feel. The genius thing about Nikita Roy is its ability to blend genre with substance. This is not just a mystery film which unravels in the climax or a ghost story to be feared it’s an exploration of what happens when belief systems collapse. The film doesn’t just entertain it challenges you.
