Kolkata. Asia’s oldest football tournament (Football Tournament) Durand Cup, Kolkata’s Vivekananda Yuva Bharti Kreedangan (YBK) will begin on 23 July. The Chief Minister of West Bengal (Mamata Bnerjee) will inaugurate this tournament. Four teams from Bengal will participate in it: Mohun Bagan, East Bengal, Mohammedan Sporting Club and Diamond Harbor FC playing for the first time.

The prize money of the Durand Cup has been increased by three times from Rs 1.2 crore to Rs 3 crore, along with the winners will also be given the prestigious President Cup in Rashtrapati Bhavan. In this tournament, a total of 24 teams including 6 clubs of the Indian Super League (ISL) – Mohan Bagan, East Bengal, Northeast United, Punjab FC, Jamshedpur FC and Mohammedan Sporting will compete.

This time 24 teams will take part in the tournament
Tribhuvan Army FC (Nepal) and Malaysian Armed Forces team will be foreign teams participating in the tournament. Teams like Diamond Harbor FC, Malaysia Army, ITBP, South United FC, One Ladakh and Namdhari FC are making debut in the Durend Cup this time. The teams will be divided into six groups, in which the toppers of each group and the teams in second and third number will move forward in the knockout stage.

Sony sports network will be broadcast
The Durand Cup matches will be broadcast live on Sony Sports Network and can also be seen online on Sony Live. The tournament will be played at 6 places in five cities: Kolkata (Yuva Bharti and Kishore Bharti), Kokrajhar, Imphal, Shillong and Jamshedpur. The winner will be awarded the President’s Cup, and SUVs will be given to the Golden Ball, Golden Boot and Golden Glove winning players.
