Online Tatkal Ticket Booking: To ensure transparency and fairness in Tatkal ticket booking for railway passengers, Indian Railways has made a big change in the Tatkal reservation system. Now, Aadhaar OTP verification has been made mandatory for online Tatkal ticket booking. This rule has come into effect across the country from 15 July 2025.
Giving information, North Western Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Shashi Kiran said that this step has been taken to curb problems like fake booking, brokerage, and bulk ticketing, so that real passengers can get their benefit.
Sent to Aadhaar-linked mobile number.
Under the new system, Tatkal tickets will be issued only to those passengers who will authenticate the OTP sent to the Aadhaar-linked mobile number in their IRCTC account. Tatkal booking will not be possible without OTP verification. This OTP will be sent to the mobile number at the time of ticket booking, which will be linked to Aadhaar, and the passenger will have entered it in the profile.
A transparent booking facility will be available.
Booking through the railway's official website, mobile app, PRS counters, and authorized agents will be possible only when this verification is completed. This will provide safe and transparent booking to the passengers and reduce the role of middlemen.
Will not be able to book Tatkal tickets in 30 minutes
Apart from this, a ban on bulk booking has also been implemented. Authorized ticketing agents will no longer be able to book Tatkal tickets in the first 30 minutes of the booking window. This arrangement will apply from 10:00 am to 10:30 am for AC coaches and from 11:00 am to 11:30 am for non-AC categories. Only individual passengers will be able to book tickets during this period.
Update your Aadhaar number and mobile number
The railway administration has appealed to the passengers to update their Aadhaar number and mobile number in their IRCTC profile in time, so that they do not face any problem at the time of booking. This step of the railways is being considered an important effort towards technical upgradation as well as protection of the interests of the passengers, which will provide more transparent and smooth service to the common passenger.
