How would you feel if day turns into night and the whole world drowns in darkness? That too for a full 6 minutes. If the sun disappears for 6 minutes, it is natural to feel restless. These are not imaginary things. A total solar eclipse will occur on 2 August 2027. Due to a total solar eclipse, the entire sky will be immersed in darkness during the day. Such a solar eclipse will not be seen for the next 100 years. Crores of people living on different continents of the world will get to see this sight. Such a solar eclipse will not be seen again until 2114.
It is believed that this solar eclipse will start from the Atlantic Ocean. Then it will go to the Strait of Gibraltar, Southern Spain, Northern Morocco, Northern Algeria, Northern Tunisia, North Eastern Libya, Egypt, Sudan, South Western Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Somalia, and other countries of the Arabian Peninsula. However, it will become blurred over the Indian Ocean. The longest total solar eclipse in history was 7 minutes 28 seconds, which happened in 743 BC.
This solar eclipse is also being called the 'Great North African Eclipse'. The reason for this is that it will be visible from most countries in Africa. Most solar eclipses last less than 3 minutes, but the total solar eclipse on August 2, 2027, will keep many parts of the world immersed in darkness for a full 6 minutes.
What is the reason for such a long solar eclipse?
The reason for this is the rare astronomical alignment between the Sun, Moon, and Earth. There are three main reasons for such a long solar eclipse. The first is that the Earth will be at its farthest distance from the Sun. This is called aphelion. Because of this, the sun will look smaller from Earth. At the same time, the Moon will be closest to the Earth, which will make it look bigger. Third, the shadow of the moon will fall on the equator and the shadow will grow slowly.
