In the early 80s a tale hit the screens with little noise unnoticed by the crowd on its first day. But as time passed whispers turned into cheers and the film that once saw empty seats began drawing full houses. Released in 1983 this cinematic gem though a slow starter found its magic through word of mouth. With powerful performances and a story that struck a chord it climbed the ladder of success surprising even its makers. Which Film Is This? After the release of the film no one came to see it and he felt that his career as a filmmaker was over before it even started. Shekhar wrote in the post The problem is that you have made an article film and then other young black marketers also joined in almost threateningly. I soon understood that by article they meant artistic... but it was not a compliment in any way because they had bought tickets expecting a full house so that they could sell them at a profit thats it. no one came. What Happened On Thursday? Shekhar further wrote The race to find new theatres began... And Masoom was declared a hit... What happened on Thursday?? I dont know... And I have been thinking this all along. What if they had not come on Thursday? Distributors would have left other theatres too... and Masoom would not have been a film that anyone would have watched. Now after so many years... When I am preparing to bring Masoom The Next-Generation into production the word article film still haunts me and what happened on Thursday? Did my or my films fortunes change overnight?
