Renowned action director and actor Vicky Kaushal's father, Sham Kaushal, revealed how he contemplated suicide after he was diagnosed with cancer in 2003. He shared that he wanted to jump off the hospital building, but could not due to the post-surgical pain in his abdomen.

Kaushal revealed that he experience pain in his stomach during the shoot of Hrithik Roshan's Lakshya, but he ignored it at first. However, during the shoot of Shyam Benegal’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, he felt excruciating pain and was rushed to the hospital, where he was informed that he had to undergo a surgery.

"I said, ‘Do it, if that’s the only option.’ He gave me some medications, and the next morning, he operated me. The operation went on for about three hours. In the evening, it took me some time to gain consciousness. It was only three days later that I regained my senses," he said in a podcast with Aman Aujla.

Kaushal, however, noticed that people's reaction towards him had changed and that everyone seemed worried even after the operation. "After operating me, they removed something from my stomach which they further sent for testing to check whether it was cancerous. Apparently, it was. After the report came, the doctor shared that I won’t survive," he recalled.

He went on to say, "They informed me in the evening, and at night, I had this wild thought of jumping from the third floor of the hospital where my room was situated. I didn’t make the decision out of weakness, but thought when I have to die anyway, why not now? But I couldn’t move due to the pain post surgery."

Kaushal shared that he then had a conversation with God and asked him to take his life away, as he did not want to live a life where he was weak. "I told him 'If you want to take me away, do it now. I have no complaints. I have lived a full life. And if possible, then just spare me 10 more years as my kids are really young'. But after the conversation, I overcame the fear of death," he stated.

Kaushal said that the conversation gave him renewed strength, and he underwent several tests and surgeries over a span of one year. He was declared fit later as the cancer had not spread to other parts of his body. "I had asked God to bless me with 10 more years, but today it has been 22 years. That phase changed my life. I met several good people. I received good work. My kids have been doing well. I grew in life," he gushed.

For those unversed, Kaushal has worked as an action director in a number of films, including Krrish, Padmaavat, Gangs of Wasseypur, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, PK, Sanju, Tiger Zinda Hai, Simmba, and others.
