Australia’s Chris Mitrevsky made it to the top three in his last attempt by making the best jump of 7.68 meters.
After recovering from a serious knee injury in April 2024, this competition was Srishankar’s second competition in Portugal, for which he needed surgery and due to which he had to be out of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Earlier this month, Srishankar made a winning comeback on domestic soil with a jump of 8.05 meters at the Indian Open Athletics Meet 2025 in Pune.
Murali jumped 8.37 meters and achieved quota for the Paris Olympics – which was more than the Olympic entry standard 8.27 meters – and won a silver medal in the Asian Athletics Championship 2023 in Bangkok.
His last major international appearance before the injury was a silver medal at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzo, People’s Republic of China.
