Synopsis

Pratik Chauhan, son of BJP MLA Prabhu Chauhan, faces rape allegations from a 25-year-old woman. She claims repeated assaults occurred between December 2023 and March 2024, following promises of marriage. The woman alleges incidents in multiple locations, including a Bengaluru hotel and during religious trips, further claiming Chauhan pressured her into self-harm after engagement.

Karnataka Police have registered a case of rape against Pratik Chauhan, son of BJP MLA Prabhu Chauhan, following allegations by a 25-year-old woman who says he repeatedly assaulted her over several months after promising to marry her, as reported by TOI.

The woman, a Maharashtra resident, filed a complaint at the Bidar Women’s Police Station on Sunday. According to the FIR, she alleges that the assaults occurred between December 2023 and March 2024, across multiple locations including a hotel in Bengaluru, where she says the first incident took place in September 2023.

The woman claims she had been in a relationship with Pratik Chauhan for over two years, during which he gave repeated assurances of marriage. Based on this promise, she says she accompanied him on trips to places like Latur and Shirdi, where she was allegedly assaulted again, often under the guise of religious visits.

A formal engagement ceremony was reportedly held on December 25, 2023, at Chauhan’s family home in Ghamsubai Bonthi Tanda, Aurad taluk, Bidar district. It was attended by both families. But despite this, she alleges that neither Pratik nor his family responded to multiple requests to fix a wedding date.

One of the more disturbing claims in the FIR is that Chauhan once pressured her to prove her love by self-harming. When she hesitated, he allegedly used a blade to inflict a deep cut on her forearm. The injury was treated at a hospital in Udgir, Maharashtra.

On July 5 this year, the woman’s family reportedly visited Chauhan’s home to ask about the marriage. They were allegedly told by Pratik and his father to “do whatever they wanted,” according to the complaint.

Police have confirmed that an FIR has been registered and an investigation is under way. As of now, there has been no public response from the Chauhan family.

The identity of the woman has not been disclosed, in line with Supreme Court directives on cases involving sexual assault.
