Many boards including BCCI hanging on Asia Cup, BCCI can boycott

Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appealed to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) to either postpone or change its place in Dhaka on 24 July. Due to the ongoing tension between India and Pakistan, India is not comfortable to attend this meeting. BCCI is currently waiting for the answer from ACC.

A senior BCCI official said, “We have urged the ACC to either postpone the meeting or its place should be changed. But, there is no response so far. We will wait till 24 July.”

Many boards can boycott

According to sources, not only India, Sri Lanka, Oman and Afghanistan Cricket Board can also boycott this meeting. It is being told that if the meeting is done without these boards, then all its decisions can be invalid according to the rules of ACC.

ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi has also been accused of making unnecessary pressure on India, while the Asia Cup is proposed in September and its event is already being discussed.

Asia Cup condition and preparation

This year the Asia Cup will be played in T20 format as the T20 World Cup is to be held next year. The last time in 2023, the Asia Cup took place in 50 overs format in which India defeated Sri Lanka by 10 wickets. Earlier, when the Asia Cup was in T20, Sri Lanka won the trophy by defeating Pakistan.
