In recent years, studying abroad has become more challenging due to not only financial barriers but also political instability, trade disputes, and tighter immigration policies in many developed countries. Popular destinations like the U.S., Canada, and Australia have implemented stricter visa rules, leading to delays or rejections for thousands of qualified Vietnamese students.

Beyond visa challenges, issues like culture shock, discrimination, limited job prospects after graduation, and restrictive residency policies are making students and parents rethink plans for overseas study.
Unfamiliar cultures, rising living expenses, and strict anti-immigration measures have added further uncertainty.
In response, “study abroad at home” models have emerged as a strategic option. These programs allow students to access international-standard education in Vietnam while staying safe and minimizing costs.

As the 2025 national high school exams conclude, students are at a crucial turning point in shaping their futures.
Armed with early career guidance and thorough information, many top-performing students are choosing internationally accredited universities in Vietnam. These institutions nurture well-rounded growth and prepare graduates to excel in a global workforce.
A report by the British Chamber of Commerce (BritCham), the British Embassy in Hanoi, the British University Vietnam (BUV), and Decision Lab shows that 49% of parents now prefer their children pursue international education within Vietnam. With costs just one-third to half that of studying abroad, students benefit from English-language courses, a multicultural environment, international exchanges, and strong personal skill development.
This shift in university choices is also prompting international universities to revamp their recruitment strategies. Many now look beyond standard test scores or subject combinations and actively seek out top talent through high-value scholarships tied to national exam results.
International universities like British University Vietnam (BUV) offer a variety of full and partial scholarships for students with high academic performance, exceptional extracurricular achievements, or notable leadership qualities.

Last month, BUV awarded 150 scholarships and launched the Graduation Star scholarship for students with top national high school exam scores, expanding access to world-class education.
According to BUV’s Admissions Office, the Graduation Star scholarship is awarded based on an analysis of national exam scores, focusing on academic potential without requiring additional extracurricular activities or separate aptitude tests.
BUV students also have access to a wide range of opportunities at nearly 70 prestigious universities in more than 15 countries across five continents. Options include short-term study abroad programs, semester exchanges, transfers for the final years, or postgraduate studies at leading global institutions.
For example, leveraging BUV’s international network, close friends Thuy Linh and Ha Linh, both studying Marketing Management at BUV, earned scholarships for master’s programs at the University of Exeter, a top 20 U.K. university.

“Inspired by BUV’s learning environment and teaching methods, I fell in love with the U.K. education system and chose it for my master’s degree. BUV also provided immense support with documentation and guidance, streamlining the scholarship application process,” Ha Linh shared.
International study pathways at BUV are tailored to individual needs. With strong partnerships with leading universities in the U.K. and other countries, BUV offers a seamless transfer process and access to scholarships and future study options abroad.
With a smart application strategy, young talents can now obtain a high-quality international degree affordably in Vietnam or lay the groundwork for sustainable study-abroad dreams.
British University Vietnam (BUV) is Vietnam’s first QS 5-star university and the first in Vietnam and ASEAN accredited by QAA, the U.K.’s leading higher education quality assurance agency. BUV’s industry-aligned programs combine theory with practice, ensuring 100% of graduates are employed or continue their studies within three months of graduation.
