Yashasvi Jaiswal achieved another feat by scoring a half-century in the fourth match of the Anderson-Tendulkar series. He became the first opener to score a half-century in Manchester since 1974. No opener has scored a half-century at this ground since 1974.

In 1974, India’s legendary former batsman Sunil Gavaskar achieved this feat. The great batsman Sunil Gavaskar was the last Indian opener to score more than a half-century at this ground. He scored 101 runs off 251 balls and India scored 246 runs in reply to England’s 9/328 in the first innings. Gavaskar continued his dominance in the second innings with a fighting knock of 58 runs off 140 balls, but even then India could not avoid a 113-run defeat.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s record-breaking performance

Yashasvi Jaiswal has made a big record by scoring a half-century in this match. India is playing a match at this ground after a decade. Notably, India has played only 2 Test matches in Manchester in the last few decades. In 1990, Sachin Tendulkar scored his first Test century in the second innings at this ground. At that time, Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin scored 179 runs in the first innings. Due to which India was able to keep the match in a draw. Since then, no Indian batsman has scored a century at Old Trafford.

Jaiswal scored 58 runs

In 2014, India lost the Test match in Manchester by an innings. MS Dhoni was the highest run-scorer for India, scoring 71 runs off 133 balls in the second innings. In all, six batsmen were dismissed without opening their accounts. The match will be played at the same venue in 2025. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 58 runs in the match before being forced to retire.
