Are you trying to conceive? You must be looking for ways to get pregnant in the easiest way possible. Every moment while waiting for the pregnancy test report can feel like an hour. And if the report comes back negative, disappointment and stress are inevitable. Difficulty in conceiving is a problem for many women around the world.
Statistics show that around 10 to 14 percent of Indians face infertility problems and the rate is higher in urban areas. Mental preparation for IVF should focus on a healthy lifestyle, stress management and emotional support. Here are some tips that will help you on your IVF journey, as told by Dr. Hitesha Ramnani Rohira, Consultant, IVF Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, Mumbai .
- Maintain a healthy weight – Both obesity and being underweight can affect your menstrual cycle, especially ovulation, and therefore infertility.
- Control or avoid alcohol consumption if you are trying to conceive – the risk of problems is also much higher if you drink too much alcohol. Stop drinking alcohol if you are trying to conceive
- Avoid smoking – Smoking has a huge impact on fertility. Smoking reduces ovarian reserve and egg quality. Smoking reduces sperm count in men and also negatively affects sperm quality. If you smoke, cut down and gradually stop smoking completely.
- Eat foods rich in antioxidants – Free radicals in your body can damage both sperm and egg cells, but antioxidants can help neutralize them. Include plenty of fruits, vegetables, legumes, and whole grains in your diet to increase the amount of antioxidants in your diet.
- Start taking omega-3 fatty acids – It is very important to include healthy fats in your daily diet to boost fertility and overall health. Omega-3 fatty acids can help boost fertility. These healthy fats can be found in fatty fish, walnuts, and chia seeds.
- Control caffeine – Consuming 200 milligrams of caffeine per day is unlikely to interfere with fertility. This means you can have a maximum of one or two cups of coffee in a day.
- Manage stress properly – Trying to conceive is inherently stressful. Some studies have found that stress can affect fertility. Stress can cause irregular periods, which can affect fertility.
- Take prenatal vitamins – These are specially designed multivitamin supplements that provide the body with the daily dose of vitamins it needs before and during pregnancy. Folic acid and vitamin D are two fertility-boosting nutrients, so make sure you have the right levels in your body.
- Stay active – Exercise is beneficial for health in many ways. Exercise also increases fertility. Increasing moderate physical activity has a positive effect on fertility in both women and men. This is especially beneficial for obese individuals. Avoid exercising excessively or for too long.
Consult a fertility consultant, understand the IVF process thoroughly. Remember that IVF may not be successful in the first attempt. Enjoy every step of the process to keep a positive attitude.
