Neeraj Chopra's Next Targets: Three Major Records Still Unbroken
ABP Live Sports | July 25, 2025 11:11 PM CST

India’s javelin superstar Neeraj Chopra has rewritten Indian athletics history with numerous milestone achievements. However, several prestigious records remain beyond his grasp.

Diamond League record of 93.90m

Chopra finally breached the elusive 90-metre barrier at the Doha Diamond League 2025, recording a throw of 90.23 metres in May 2025. With this, he became the first Indian athlete to achieve this feat. Despite this, Neeraj Chopra is still chasing the Diamond League record of 93.90 metres, set by Germany’s Thomas Rohler during the Doha meet in 2017.

World Record Still Distant

The current world record in men’s javelin throw stands at 98.48 metres, held by Jan Železný of the Czech Republic since 1996. Interestingly, Chopra is coached by Železný himself, making this record even more significant in Chopra’s journey. However, with Chopra’s best at 90.23m, there remains a substantial gap to bridge.

Olympic Record

Neeraj Chopra secured a silver medal at the Paris Olympics 2024 with a top throw of 89.45 metres. The gold medal went to Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, who set a new Olympic record in the men’s javelin throw with a remarkable distance of 92.27 metres. Neeraj will now set his sights on surpassing this record in the next Olympic Games.

Neeraj Chopra's career highlights

Neeraj Chopra etched his name in history by becoming the first Indian track-and-field athlete to win an individual Olympic gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics with a throw of 87.58 metres. He further created history by winning:

Silver at the 2022 World Athletics Championships (88.13 metres)

Gold at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest (88.17 metres)

At just 27 years old, Chopra has already achieved more than most Indian athletes dream of. However, his pursuit of greatness is far from over. With the right trajectory, discipline, and physical form, star athlete Neeraj Chopra could soon challenge the global elite and aim for the greatest record of them all.
