Bollywood Actress Vaani Kapoor has broken her silence for the first time on working with Pakistani actor Fawad Khan and the ban imposed on their film Abir gulal in India, saying that boycotts and cancel culture should not exist.

According to Indian media Vaani Kapoor spoke openly in a recent interview about the ban placed on the film featuring Fawad Khan.

The actress stated that while issuing a censor certificate is understandable, there seems to be no limit to censorship anymore — even minor disagreements lead to entire films being banned.

She expressed concern over how, in today’s age of censorship, it’s difficult for an artist, filmmaker, or performer to explore new creative boundariesas they are constantly being controlled and restricted.

“When an artist is confined by limitations,” she said, “they are forced to come up with something new and fresh within those constraints.”

Vaani kapoor also criticized boycott and cancel culturestating:

Although she did not explicitly mention Fawad Khan or the film Abir gulal by name during the interview, her indirect references clearly pointed toward them.

The film Abir gulal was originally scheduled to be released on May 9, 2025in India and worldwide. However, toward the end of Aprilcalls for a ban emerged following a militant attack in PahalgamKashmir, which left 26 people dead.

In response to the incident, the Indian government-imposed restrictions not only on the film but also blocked Pakistani news and entertainment content on YouTube and other social media platforms. Actors’ social media accounts were also taken down.

Additionally, on May 8the Indian government directed all Platforms there in the country to stop streaming Pakistani dramas, films, web series, and podcasts.
