It has been over a month since renowned industrialist Sunjay Kapur passed away. The industrialist reportedly died of a heart attack in the UK according to media reports. The reports also claimed that Kapur swallowed a bee which caused uneasiness ultimately leading to his death. Sunjay’s mortal remains were brought to Delhi where he was laid to rest on June 19. Now with more than a month since his demise the dispute over Kapur’s property has deepened. Recently Sunjay’s mother Rani Kapur released a letter alleging that her accounts have been frozen making her survival difficult. Dispute Over Sunjay Kapur’s Property The letter stated that only a few days had passed since Sunjay Kapur’s death making it inappropriate to hold an AGM at such a time. It is also said to claim that Rani Kapur is a shareholder and director of Sona Comstar. After Sunjay’s death the Board of Directors appointed his wife Priya Sachdev. Sunjay Kapur’s Property and Karisma Kapoor’s Connection For the unversed Sunjay’s second wife was Karisma Kapoor. The two married in 2003 and shared two children. However after 11 years of marriage the couple parted ways. As per a report by Jagran following Sunjay’s death Karisma is reportedly asking for her share of the property. In response to the letter the company’s board clarified that Rani Kapur is neither a director nor a shareholder. Therefore she is not entitled to halt the AGM. A company insider stated that after Sunjay Kapur’s death his current wife Priya Kapur was appointed as an independent director. Moreover Priya Kapur has also become the Managing Director of companies where no one holds shares. Now reports suggest that Priya will decide on the division of Kapur’s property. As per the rules Karisma Kapoor’s children have rights over the property. For context the Sona Comstar Group has 13 plants across India and the world six of which are located in Gurugram. After the death of his father Dr. Surendra Kapoor Sunjay Kapur rapidly expanded the group.
