On Saturday night, the Toronto Argonauts trounced the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 31–17 thanks to two touchdown passes from Nick Arbuckle and six field goals from Lirim Hajrullahu.
For the first time in four home games, Toronto (2-5) won. In addition, the Argos defeated Winnipeg (3-3) for the fourth time in a row, including defeating the Blue Bombers 41-24 in the Grey Cup game the previous year.
The turnover battle was won 7-1 by Toronto. The BMO Field showcased a 13,266-person crowd and the stars of the game were Arbuckle scoring 22-of-31 passing for 316 yards and Damonte Coxie with passes for 145 yards and a total of six catches.
After two interceptions, and 79 yards, Zach Collaros, being the start quarterback for Winnipeg, scored 5 out of 10.
Chris Streveler, however, helped him by moving under centre, making Collaros, sit in the sidelines.
The reason for Collaros's departure was not immediately provided. He also returned to practise with the Bombers after suffering a neck injury that forced him to leave last week's 41–20 loss to Calgary.
Princess Auto Stadium will host the rematch between the two clubs on Friday night.
Streveler passed for 148 yards and a touchdown on 11 of 18 plays.
The other touchdown for Toronto came from DaVaris Daniels. Hajrullahu had a convert as well.
Winnipeg's touchdowns were scored by James Vaughters and Jerreth Sterns. Sergio Castillo kicked a field goal and two conversions.
At 6:16 of the fourth, Hajrullahu made a 36-yard field goal to give Toronto a 31–17 lead.
At 14:50 of the third, Streveler cut Toronto's lead to 28-17 with an 18-yard touchdown pass to Sterns. At 5:55, Hajrullahu made a 21-yard field goal.
After a clever 15-play, 92-yard march, Hajrullahu's 16-yard field goal to finish the second quarter put Toronto ahead 25-10. The Argos, who forced three turnovers and amassed 305 net offensive yards (compared to Winnipeg's 104), appeared unfazed by the damp, rainy circumstances.
In the second, Toronto beat Winnipeg 16-0.
At 8:03, Hajrullahu made a 22-yard field goal to put Toronto ahead 19–10. At 9:16, Hajrullahu's 40-yard boot was then made possible by Cameron Judge's interception.
At 3:13, Arbuckle scored an 18-yard goal to Daniels to give Toronto a 16–10 lead again.
At 13:26 of the first quarter, Vaughters returned a Khalan Laborn fumble 29 yards for the touchdown, giving Winnipeg a 10-9 lead. It came after a 15-yard loss on second-and-three due to a mishandled snap to Streveler.
At 11:01, Hajrullahu made a 32-yard field goal to give Toronto a 9-3 lead. Trey Vaval fumbled on a punt return, and Brandon Calver recovered it, setting it up.
Toronto's lead was reduced to 6-3 at 8:16 by Castillo's 39-yard field goal. At 3:23, Arbuckle's 33-yard touchdown pass to Coxie gave the Argos the lead.
The four-play, 81-yard drive began with a 41-yard completion to Coxie by receiver Janarion Grant. However, Hajrullahu's attempt at conversion struck the upright.
