The popular Pakistani drama serial Parwarish has recently come under fire for showing a romantic storyline between two teenage characters. Responding to the criticism, director Meesam Naqvi clarified that the show is based on social realities and aims to spark meaningful conversation rather than promote anything inappropriate.

Parwarish is currently one of the most talked-about dramas, known for its strong narrative and unique characters. The storyline revolves around parenting challenges and the emotional struggles faced by the younger generation. While many viewers have praised the drama for its relatable themes and compelling storytelling, some have raised concerns about the romantic angle between Wali and Maya, played by actors Samar Jafri and Aina Asif.

Some viewers expressed discomfort over portraying children of that age in romantic relationships, arguing it might set the wrong example. In a recent interview with FUCHSIA Magazine, director Meesam Naqvi and actor Samar Jafri addressed these concerns.

Naqvi explained that the drama is not centered on teenage romance, but it does reflect the reality that adolescents often develop emotional attachments at this stage of life. “It’s a global truth. We didn’t want to ignore it, so we portrayed it responsibly,” he said.

He further elaborated that such feelings among teens often lead to strict parental reactions, which can backfire and cause rebellion. Instead, he believes parents should be more understanding, stay close to their children, and involve them in healthy conversations.

“These children are growing up in a much more informed and fast-paced world,” Naqvi noted. “They become aware and emotionally mature earlier than previous generations. With proper guidance, they can think clearly and even offer meaningful insights.”

The director emphasized that the goal of Parwarish is to normalize conversations around such sensitive topics and break the taboo. “Parents should create a space where children feel comfortable sharing everything,” he said. “This openness helps build trust and prevents them from hiding important aspects of their lives.”
