Lucknow: This dispute over 13.37 acres of land in the Katra Keshav Dev Area of Mathura has been going on for a long time. Out of this, about 11 acres of land is considered to be the birthplace of Lord Krishna. Shahi Idgah Mosque is Situated on the Remining Land.

The Hindu side claims that the entreen land is the birthplace of Lord krishna, and the mosque was built there by demolishing the temple during the period of aurangzeb. The Muslim side has been rejected these claims outright and consides shahi idgah to be a legitimate religion.

What is the demand of the Hindu side?

Shahi Idgah should be declared a ‘disputed structure.’ This mosque was built in 1670 on the orders of mughal rular aurangzeb by demolishing the original Shri Krishna Temple, so it should be considesdered illgal. Just like the babri masjid was declared a disputed structure and a decision was given in the ayodhya case, similar the court should intervene here.

The disputed land should be brought under the authority of the temple, and the process of removing shahi idgah should be started.

What did the high court say?

On 4 July 2025, The Allahabad High Court Gave An Important Verdict in this case. The court rejected the application filed by the Hindu side, in which it was Demanded to Declare Shahi Idgah as a ‘disputed structure.’ The court said that on the basis of the present evidence and the petition, the mosque cannot be considesdered.

This decision was given by a single bench of justice ram manohar narayan mishra. The next hearing date has been fixed for 2 August 2025.

When and did this matter start?

The roots of this dispute are said to be linked to the reign of aurangzeb in the 17th century. The claim of aurangzeb building a mosque by demolishing the sri krishna temple in 1670 has been raised many times in history, but no conclusive legal evidence of this has come to know.

This Matter Became Active In the Courts in 2020, when Various Hindu Organizations Presented Legal Claims Regarding Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi. On 5 March 2025, The Hindu Side Filed An Application in the Allahabad High Court, Demanding that Idgah Be Declared a Disputed Structure. The hearing was completed on 23 May 2025, and the decision was reserved, which was pronounced on 4 July.

What is the current situation?

Shahi Idgah is currently Considered a legal Valid Religious Place. The Hindu side did not get relieve from the high court at the moment, but the case is still going on, and the next hearing is awailed. This decision is definitely being consulted a legal setback for the Hindu side, but the struggle is still on.
