Range Rover Electric: A silent ascent into serenity

An electric car’s cabin is far more silent than a conventional petrol/diesel car’s cabin, but the moment you step inside the Range Rover Electric, you might find EVs noisy.

We recently took a passenger ride in this zen of a zero emissions car, at the JLR plant in England; it will be launched in India next year.

What is it?

While we don’t have all technical specifications of the Range Rover Electric – as it’s work in progress – we know it will have a 117kWh battery pack consisting of 344 prismatic cells, allterrain capability, and 800V battery. Things such as range, power, and capability are still being tested.

The global unveil is in late 2025, and deliveries are expected early 2026. India will be among the first markets to get the car (in early 2026).

The experience

Stepping into it isn’t merely entering a vehicle, but a silent ascent into serenity. The moment you close the doors, outside noise simply disappears. EVs are silent, but there is tyre and wind noise. In the Range Rover Electric, however, because the seats are so plush and the plastic and fabric quality so fine, you may not notice any outside developments.

What helps is that the ride isn’t a regular ride, but almost a frictionless glide – even off the road, when its air suspension seems to absorb all bumps and undulations.

Electric motors eliminate engine vibrations, and the highRPM noise of the Range Rover ICE (diesel, petrol, and PHEV) is also missing in the Range Rover Electric.

Will the IndiaUK FTA impact its launch timeline?

Automotive experts told FE that the IndiaUK FTA isn’t expected to impact its launch timeline or even pricing. Reasons are that the FTA’s concessions for EVs aren’t as immediate or broad as those for ICE luxury cars. “No concessions are given to electric, hybrid, or hydrogenpowered vehicles in the first five years of the FTA’s implementation, and this means that the Range Rover Electric – expected to be launched in India in 2026, as a CBU import – will likely face the current high import duties, from 70110%, for quite some time,” an auto expert said.
