Health experts say that adding citrus fruits, berries, and bananas to your daily diet can help protect and preserve your eyesight.

According to U.K.-based Eye Clinic London, a diet rich in antioxidants and essential vitamins plays a vital role in reducing the risk of age- eye conditions such as macular degeneration, cataracts, and dry eyes.

Here are five fruits that offer key nutrients to support long-term eye health:

1. Citrus fruits

Oranges, lemons, and grapefruits are excellent sources of vitamin C—a powerful antioxidant that helps maintain connective tissue, including collagen in the cornea. Vitamin C also supports healthy blood vessels in the eyes and may reduce the risk of vision problems as you age.

2. Berries

Blueberries, strawberries, cranberries, and blackberries are packed with antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. These nutrients help fight inflammation, support night vision, and may lower the risk of macular degeneration and eye dryness. Some research also links berry consumption to better blood pressure control, which benefits eye health.

3. Bananas

Bananas are rich in potassium and vitamin A, both essential for eye function. Potassium helps maintain a healthy tear film, making bananas particularly beneficial for dry eyes. Vitamin A plays a key role in protecting the cornea and supporting clear vision.

4. Mango

Mangoes are loaded with vitamin A and the antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin, which are known for protecting the eyes from harmful light, according to Healthline. These nutrients act as natural filters that absorb blue light and reduce the risk of damage from UV rays and screen exposure.

5. Apricots

Apricots are a great source of vitamins A, C, and E, as well as beta-carotene and other carotenoids. These nutrients enhance night vision, help the eyes adjust to low-light conditions, and protect the retina from ultraviolet and blue light damage.
