In a significant development Microsoft employees responded to a message from chief executive officer Satya Nadella in which he attempted to explain the companys decision to cut workers despite the company making massive profits and investing billions in AI reported Business Insider. It is to be noted that Microsoft has cut thousands of jobs this year despite making $75 billion in profit in the last three fiscal quarters and announcing an $80 billion investment in AI infrastructure in 2025. On top of that the stock reached an all-time high earlier this month. In a memo sent to employees on Thursday CEO Satya Nadella called this “seeming incongruence” as the “enigma of success.” The company expects its overall number of employees to remain roughly flat. Some Microsoft employees according to a report by Business Insider are questioning why CEO Satya Nadella sent out the recent memo. They are asking questions like: Are more job cuts coming? Is he feeling guilty about earnings which the company is due to report next week? Was this just a message to Wall Street? Nadella composed the letter because he understands that employees are feeling pressure from heightened performance expectations increased competition from AI and the recent layoffs according to a person with knowledge of the matter. Although the last major employee “Signals” survey by Microsoft was done before the recent layoffs the company has continued to track employee sentiment through routine daily and weekly “pulse” surveys.
