
With the aim of making the women of the country financially self-reliant and giving them employment, the Central Government has launched the Bima Sakhi Yojana in collaboration with the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC). This scheme is especially for those women who want to work but do not have the means or opportunity.
This scheme was launched on 9 December 2024 and has received tremendous response so far. On Tuesday, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary informed Parliament that more than 2 lakh women have joined this scheme so far, and they are earning around Rs 7,000 every month.
Objective and benefits of the scheme
The main objective of the Bima Sakhi scheme is to provide employment to women of rural and urban areas in the insurance sector. Under this, women can become agents of LIC and work in the field after taking training. This scheme not only provides employment but also gives financial literacy to women.
Who can apply?
Some basic eligibility criteria have been fixed to apply to this scheme. The age of the female candidate should be at least 18 years, and the maximum age has been fixed at 70 years. Apart from this, the woman should be at least a 10th pass. The candidate should be a resident of India and should have documents like Aadhaar, PAN, and residence proof.
Stipend will be given for three years.
Under the Bima Sakhi scheme, women agents are also given a stipend (training allowance) for three years. In this, Rs 7,000 per month in the first year, Rs 6,000 per month in the second year, but the condition is that 65 percent of the policies of the first year should remain active. Whereas in the third year, Rs 5,000 per month, the condition is that 65 percent of the policies of the second year should remain active.
What is the situation so far?
According to Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, Rs 62.36 crore was paid to Bima Sakhis in the financial year 2024-25. At the same time, LIC has fixed a budget of Rs 520 crore for 2025-26. Out of this, Rs 115.13 crore has been paid till July 14. This means that the government is taking this scheme seriously and is trying to bring it to more women.

A new form will open in which other necessary information, including state and district, will have to be filled.
Upload all the necessary documents and submit the form.
After submitting the form, a confirmation message will come to the mobile.
What are the required documents?
Aadhar card, residence certificate, PAN card, 10th mark sheet or certificate, mobile number and passport size photo.
