The state government on Monday revoked the suspension of former Bengaluru City Police Commissioner B Dayananda, IGP Vikash Kumar Vikash and DCP (central) Shekar H Tekkannavar, Dy SP C Balakrishna and Inspector AK Girish and reinstated them in service.
The government had suspended the five of them after the June 4 stampede during the RCB team’s IPL victory celebrations at Chinnaswamy stadium that left 11 persons dead and scores of fans injured.
The disciplinary proceedings ordered against the five officers, however, will continue.
The government order cited the completion of enquiry by Justice John Michael Cunha and by the Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner Jagadish G as well as representations by the officers as the grounds for revoking their suspensions.
The Opposition BJP welcomed the reinstatement of officers which it said vindicated its stand that the police officers were not at all responsible for the ghastly incident. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Dy CM DK Shivakumar must own up responsibility for deaths of fans and resign their posts, the party said.
