Elon musk starlink internet: Alan Musk’s satellite internet company in India Starlink For the beginning, the road is not easy. Recently, Union Minister of State for Telecommunications Pemmasani Chandrashekhar clarified that Starlinks will be allowed to give only 20 lakh connections in the country. The company has not even started working officially in India and efforts have already been started by the government to control it to some extent.
Starlink’s limited reach fixed
Minister Chandrashekhar told the media after a review meeting with BSNL that the services of satellite internet companies like Starlink will be mainly limited in rural and remote areas, where BSNL has strong hold.
“Starlink can offer internet speed up to 200 Mbps in India and may have a maximum of 2 million users, which will not have any major impact on telecom services,” he said.
Expensive service will become a big obstacle
According to the minister, both the setup cost and monthly fee of satellite communication (SATCOM) services will be quite high. It is estimated that the monthly fee can be around ₹ 3,000, which can become an expensive option for common consumers.
BSNL expansion and complete 4G rollout
Speaking on the status of BSNL in the meeting, the minister said that the 4G network of the company has been fully rolled out, and the company is not currently planning any increase in its tariff.
Starlink gets final license
Earlier this month, the IN-Space (Indian Space Regulatory Fund) has given a final approval to Starlink to launch a commercial operation in India. The approval was pending for the company from 2022. Along with this, Starlink is going to become the third satellite internet company working in India.
Conclusions: Limited access, high cost and government control
Although Starlink’s way of entry into India has now become clear, it is clear that the company will have to expand slowly and in a controlled manner in the Indian market.
