Bangkok: On the morning of July 28, a gunman opened fire at Bangkok's Or Tor Kor Market in Chatuchak, killing at least 5 people and injuring several others near the “Kan Jom Phalang” donation point.
At least six people have been confirmed dead following the shooting, including the gunman who took his own life, according to Deputy Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, Charin Gopatta. Speaking to , the official said that the total death toll includes the four security guards, one additional victim (a woman), and the shooter himself.
The incident took place in the fresh market zone of the Agricultural Market Organisation, causing panic among those present.
According to a report by Thailand's local newspaper , the perpetrator, dressed in a black T-shirt, military-pattern shorts, and carrying a backpack, used a handgun to carry out the attack. After the shooting, he was seen fleeing briefly near the scene, before sitting down on a chair and fatally shooting himself with the same weapon.
Several videos of the man also surfaced on social media.
Police have cordoned off the area and launched an urgent investigation. The motive behind the brutal attack remains unclear.
