
At least 18 Kanwariyas lost their lives and several others were injured in a road accident in Jharkhand’s Deoghar district on Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred around 4:30 am near the Jamuniya forest area under Mohanpur police station limits when a bus carrying devotees collided with a vehicle loaded with gas cylinders, according to officials.
Talking to X, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey said, “In my Lok Sabha constituency of Deoghar, during the Kanwar Yatra in the month of Shravan, 18 devotees lost their lives due to a bus and truck accident."
Inspector General (Dumka Zone) Shailendra Kumar Sinha said that a 32-seater bus carrying Kanwariyas collided with a truck transporting gas cylinders near Jamuniya forest in Mohanpur police station in Deoghar.
An official said the death toll may rise as several of the injured are in critical condition.
The district administration has been alerted, and the injured are being taken to nearby hospitals and primary health centres for treatment, he added.
