In a major setback for England cricket team, pacer Chris Woakes has been ruled out of the India vs England 5th Test due to injured shoulder. The England cricket Board further stated that a further assessment will take place at the end of the series.

How Did Chris Woakes Suffer Injury?

Woakes injured his shoulder while trying to stop a boundary on Day 1 of the final Test on Thursday. The incident happened when Team India batter Karun Nair, drove Jamie Overton's delivery towards the boundary. Woakes tumbled over the rope and hurt himself while trying to save a boundary.

While the batters ran three runs, Nair noticed Woakes in pain and lying on the ground beyond the boundary. He stopped his partner from coming through for a fourth despite extra runs on offer.

What did Gus Atkinson say aboutChris Woakes injury?

Earlier on Thursday, Woakes teamamte Gus Atkinson provided a fitness update during a press conference at the end of Day 1. He said, "I don't know too much about it, but it doesn't look great. It's a big shame, last game of the series, and when anyone gets injured, it's a shame. I'm hoping it's not too bad, and whatever it is, he'll get full support from everyone."

What does injury mean to the England bowling attack?

Woakes bowled 14 overs on the first day, picking the wicket of KL Rahul. His injury looks set to leave England a bowler short for the rest of the match. In the current series, Woakes has taken 11 wickets, bowling 181 overs. With injury to Woakes, England are left with an inexperienced bowling lineup with the other three members - Atkinson, Jamie Overton and Josh Tongue sharing only 18 previous Test caps between them.
