A few days ago, Eros had announced that they will be releasing Raanjhanaa in Tamil with a changed climax.
The old vs. new climax of RaanjhanaaIn the original version, Dhanush’s character, Kundan, dies in a tragic explosion during the climax. The twist lies in the fact that Zoya (Sonam Kapoor) was the mastermind behind the plan, something Kundan was fully aware of. Yet, burdened by guilt over the murder of Zoya’s fiancé and desperate to prove the purity of his love, Kundan chooses not to escape. He accepts his fate, leading to a deeply emotional moment where the surrounding characters reflect on their memories and connections with him, bringing the story to a hauntingly poignant end.

But in the AI-generated new climax, the audiences witnessed a happy ending where Kundan wakes up from the deathbed.

Contrary to expectations, the new climax is facing mixed reactions and a majority of users criticised it as well.
Directors Neeraj Pandey and Anand L. Rai were also outraged by the new climax.
One user commented, “I think this Parallel world it good but bad, But avar death is better than alive, his life is full of sad and sorrow. After life he get better than this we hope. Waiting for kundan next life in tera ishk mein (raanjhana world).”

Another user commented, “Worst ending though...AI is stripping life off a creative medium. This was never supposed to have a 'happy' ending. Kundan's tragic hero in love archetype & Zoya's revenge had doom written in their stars.”

Director Neeraj Pandey said that altering any film’s climax without the permission of its creator is ‘utterly disrespectful’.
In a conversation, he told NDTV, “AI is just a tool. A human being is operating it. It’s the intent behind it that matters. If a piece of cinema is being altered without the director or writer, they could have done better.”
Previously, Anand L. Rai had stated that he had no idea about this change.

Rai told Screen, “I got to know about it through a social media announcement a couple of days ago. People have already been messaging me asking me why that ending is being changed. I just can’t wrap my head around this.”
He added, “I don’t get it, how can they do this? It’s an ending people have loved! If not the filmmaker, at least listen to the audience.
Finally, Anand L. Rai disassociated himself from the movie and didn’t promote the film’s re-release anywhere.
