An 8.8-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula on Wednesday, triggering tsunami alerts across several Pacific Rim regions, including the U.S., Japan, and the Philippines. At the time, Chia was in Waikiki with a colleague and her children, preparing to attend a basketball game, according to Znewswhich cited Zaobao.

Chia shared on social media that tsunami sirens began blaring just as they arrived at the stadium, prompting an immediate evacuation and the closure of the venue.

“We waited two hours before we could leave,” she wrote. “Everyone said it was their first time experiencing something like this. All the shops in Waikiki shut down. It felt like we were escaping—it was terrifying.”

She also posted a photo of her daughters looking out from a balcony, writing: “This is the first time the kids have experienced a tsunami, so please stay alert.”

Later, in a statement through her agent, Chia reassured fans that she and her family were safe.

“Everything is fine now. I feel so small in the face of nature. I hope there will be no more disaster news. Thank you for your concern,” she said.

Chia, 51, is best known for her roles in hit television series such as “The Prince of Han Dynasty,” “The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber,” “Lady Wu: The First Empress,” and the critically acclaimed drama “The World Between Us.”

She shares one daughter with her ex-husband Charles Sun and two daughters with her current husband, actor Hsiu Chieh Kai.
