New Delhi: The Play has been called off on Day 4 of the fifth Test between India and England at the Oval on Sunday. The hosts were 339 for 6 at the time interruption, needing 35 runs to win the final Test and the five-match series.

The Men in Blue need just three wickets to win the Test and level the series at 2-2. All-rounder Chris Woakes has already been ruled out of the match due to injury. However, he was seen dressed up with his hand in a sling.

Jamie Smith and Jamie Overton were batting in the middle at 2 and 0 respectively when the umpires checked the light meter and decided to stop the proceedings, but the match was called as there was heavy downpour at the Oval.

England 339/6 at stumps on Day 4

England resumed batting on Day 4 at 50/1 and got off to a great start as Duckett completed his fifty but was dismissed shortly after as he looked to play a drive, nicking off to the slip cordon. Mohammed Siraj removed Ollie Pope for 27 with a nip-backer, which left the hosts reeling at 106/3.

But a brilliant counter-attacking batting from Joe Root and Harry Brook turned the session in England’s favour. The duo forged a 195-run partnership for the fourth wicket, and the visitors were blown away from the match. Brook was dropped by Siraj at fine leg and he punished the Indian bowler by completing his 10th Test century, and Root also notched up his 39th Test hundred.

Brook was removed by Akash Deep for 111, and Root was dismissed by Prasidh on 105. Bethell was removed by Prasidh when he tried to charge the bowler. The conditions got overcast, and the Indian pacers found massive seam movement from the pitch. The England batters struggled to bat as Indian bowlers were completely in charge, but the bad light stopped the match, and it was called after a heavy downpour.
