The sacred day of Ekadashi is observed on the eleventh day of the moon cycle, both from the Purnima (full moon) and from the Amavasya (new moon).
The day is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, and for Hindus it's also a day of observing a fast since it's a auspicious day for getting his blessings, and that of his consort, Goddess Lakshmi. According to the Vedic calendar, the Ekadashi that falls during the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of the moon) in the month of Shravan is known as Putrada Ekadashi.
As per Hindu belief, observing this fast is said to bring prosperity and well-being, and bless one's children with long life. This year, Putrada Ekadashi will be observed tomorrow on 5 August 2025. Here's everything you need to know about when and how to break the fast (Paran) for Putrada Ekadashi.
Putrada Ekadashi 2025: Auspicious Timings
According to the Vedic Panchang, the Ekadashi tithi will begin on 4 August at 11:41 AM and end on 5 August at 1:12 PM. Therefore, the fast will be kept on 5 August, and it should be broken the next day, during the Dwadashi tithi.

Brahma Muhurat: 4:02 AM to 4:42 AM
Vijay Muhurat: 2:39 PM to 3:35 PM
Godhuli Muhurat: 7:16 PM to 7:36 PM
Nishita Muhurat: Midnight to 12:40 AM
Parana Date and Timing
The fast should be broken on 6 August, during the Dwadashi. The most auspicious time for breaking the fast is between 7:15 AM and 8:21 AM.
How to Perform the Fast-Breaking Ritual (Parana Vidhi)
According to Drik Panchang, "On Dwadashi, one should serve food to the Brahmin first.
Those are unable to serve the cooked food should donate raw materials for Brahmin Bhoja on a decorated plate directly in the temple or to a deserving Brahmin. Parana is prohibited during Hari Vasara."
- On the day of breaking the fast begin by bathing early in the morning.
- Offer Arghya to the Sun God.
- Clean your home altar or local temple and perform puja.
- Light a lamp using desi ghee and perform aarti for Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi.
- Chant mantras and recite the Vishnu Chalisa.
- Offer sattvic food items to the deities.
- Donate to the poor or to a temple, as per your ability.
